Biography

Lorenzo Urciullo, aka Colapesce, born in Solarino on 6 September 1983 is a Sicilian singer-songwriter, very attached to his homeland. The stage name derives from legend of Colapesce, a Sicilian fisherman who remained underwater to support the columns of the island. We don’t know much about his private life, but some information can be found by reading his biography released in 2015 with the title Damn Italian. Of him, Pierluigi Lucadei, who edited his biography, writes:

In the current panorama, Colapesce is a white fly. Like a craftsman, he takes care of his records with the utmost attention, writes poetic and rigorous lyrics, shuns easy refrains and sets up arrangements that take him away from the too often trite solutions of the Italian songwriting. If he is a songwriter, he is in the manner of the greatest. It is not by chance that he has been compared to Lucio Dalla and Franco Battiato. Attracted as much by experimentation as by tradition, he loves to mix the sacred and the profane, rhythm and melody, cinematographic and literary suggestions, Sicily and America, indie pop and folk of the Seventies.

Text Musica Legerissima Colapesce Dimartino

If it were an orchestra to speak for us
It would be easier to say goodbye
Becoming an adult would be a crescendo
Of violins and trouble
The drums announce a thunderstorm
The master has gone away
Put on some light music
Because I want nothing
Indeed very light
Words without mystery
Cheerful but not too much
Put on some light music
In the deafening silence
In order not to fall into the black hole
Which is one step away from us, from us
More or less
If a concert were enough to give birth to a flower
Among the buildings destroyed by enemy bombs
In the name of a God
That doesn’t come out with the storm
The master has gone away
Put on some light music
Because I want nothing
Indeed very light
Words without mystery
Cheerful but not too much
Put on some light music
In the deafening silence
In order not to fall into the black hole
Which is one step away from us, from us
More or less
It remains in the background
Inside the supermarkets
The soldiers sing it
The alcoholic children
The progressive priests
You hear it in the neighborhoods
Sunny
That thunders lightly
It lurks in thoughts
In the gym
He’s holding a party
Even shit
You think back to your life
To the things you left behind
Fall into space
Of your indifference
Animal
Put on some light music
Because I want nothing
Indeed very light
Words without mystery
Cheerful but not too much
Put on some light music
In the deafening silence
In order not to fall into the black hole
Which is one step away from us, from us
More or less
