To really get a taste of the raw beauty of the outback, you’ve just got to check out Windjana Gorge. This jaw-dropping ravine, nestled in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, has been around for more than 100 million years and features towering limestone walls that reach up to 100 metres high.

While you’re exploring the gorge, keep your peepers peeled for the freshwater crocodiles that make Windjana Gorge their home. These crocs are usually pretty chill and won’t give you any trouble if you give them some space. You’ll also spot plenty of other critters, including rock wallabies and a plethora of bird species.

For those who like to push themselves, the Windjana Gorge to Tunnel Creek Walk is a must-do. This 7-kilometre trek will lead you through some of the most stunning scenery in the region, including the entrance to the underground Tunnel Creek. Make sure to bring lots of water and wear some sturdy hiking boots, since the terrain can get pretty rough in some spots.

Lake Argyle

This massive lake, which is the largest man-made reservoir in Australia, is unlike anything else you’ll ever see. It’s home to an incredible array of wildlife, including freshwater crocodiles and over 270 species of birds, making it a true paradise for nature lovers.
