The fortune of ex darts pro Phil Taylor
How much money does Phil Taylor have?
Somewhat disrespectfully as a “superstar with a beer belly”, the Handelsblatt titled the man who is considered the best darts player of all time: Phil Taylor. His nickname “The Power“Fits better with the mid-fifties from Stoke-on-Trent, England, whose triumphant advance, like all professional darts players, began in a pub.
According to estimates amounts to Phil Taylor’s fortune at around 10 million euros. In the course of his career he was able to collect 9.04 million euros in darts prize money alone. He does not seem to be aware of his wealth himself. In 2012 he won the championship with a purse of £ 60,000. It was not clear to him – according to his own statement – that he had just reached the 5 million mark. Instead, he remarked dryly: “When I look at my bank statements, I never seem to have that much.”
In early 2014, Taylor made a name for itself with a spectacular change in sponsor. He ended his longstanding partnership with Unicon Darts and left one 5-year contract with Target Darts one. Height of Contract volume: 3 million pounds sterling.
Phil Taylor’s path to “The Power”
Phil Taylor was born on August 13, 1960 in Burslem, Stroke-on-Trent into simple circumstances. The region is known for its pottery and Taylor’s father also worked in the ceramics industry. The boy’s path seemed to be mapped out accordingly. At the age of 16 he left school and started working as a locksmith. He later made ceramic toilet roll holders for £ 52 a week.
Entry into the game of darts
Taylor had loved playing darts as a child. The sport only became his determining factor when he moved into the neighborhood of Eric Bristow in the mid-1980s. Bristow, a “living legend of darts”, discovered Taylor’s game in a pub and took him under his wing. The multiple world champion promoted the young talent with 10,000 pounds, – but on the condition that Taylor one day repay him the sum. The money enabled Taylor more intensive training and participation in first tournaments.
Incredible successes lead to high fortune
Of all things Victory against his mentor Bristow at the British Darts Organization (BDO) World Darts Championship in 1990 marked the beginning of Taylor’s career. In 1992 he participated in the founding of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). From then on he concentrated his game entirely on this association. Between 1995 and 2002 the super player won the PDC world championships without interruption. Also in the 2000s “The Power” made it to the finals regularly and won other world championship titles, most recently in 2013. Taylor also stayed in the numerous other PDC tournaments unrivaled record holder. Overall, Phil Taylor can go on 16 world championship titles look back. He is therefore considered to be the most successful darts player of all time and that will probably stay that way for a while. In the last part of his career, the young successor Michael van Gerwen bought him the rank of number 1.
End of career
Phil Taylor occasionally mentioned his retirement in public, but in early 2017 he actually made the big announcement that his career would end with the end of the 2018 Darts World Cup. He played his last match on January 1st, 2018 in the final of the Darts World Cup, which Taylor lost to newcomer Rob Cross. In 2018 he still played a lot of exhibitions and earned some real money. After that, “the GOAT” went into his well-deserved retirement.
Possessions
Outwardly, the athlete is modest, always mindful of his simple origins. In 2011 he told the newspaper “The Telegraph”: “The last big purchase I got carried away with was a hybrid car from Toyota.” It seems relatively certain where Taylor will one day retire: a few years ago he did one Villa on the Canary Island of Tenerife acquired.
Again and again private problems
Thanks to the widespread impact that the game of darts enjoys in England, Taylor has the status of a super star. A sex scandal in 1999 cost him his reputation, however, and he also had to pay a £ 2,000 fine. The British Order of the British Empire, planned for 2001, was withdrawn from him without further ado; sponsors also turned away from the convict.
The Power is said to have had a very divided relationship with his daughters Kelly and Natalie since the divorce from his wife Yvonne. Both should be unemployed and somehow get by with social assistance. They do not receive any financial support from their father, and contact has been completely broken off.
