Biography

Massimiliano Edgar Rosolino was born in Naples on 11 July 1978, to a Neapolitan father and an Australian mother. He spent his youth between Italy and Australia. He participates in his first European youth championships in 1994 in Pardubice (in the Czech Republic) and then always finishes on the podium at the following championships. He became known worldwide thanks to his triumph at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, where he wins a gold, a silver and a bronze, which will add up to all the countless medals won up to 2008.

In July 1995 at the European Youth Championships in Geneva he won three golds in the 100, 200 and 400 m freestyle and silver with the 4 × 200 m style. The first Olympics

Maximilian made his debut at the Olympics in 1996 at the Atlanta Games. He swims in three finals (200m, 400m and 4 × 200m freestyle relay) and gets three sixth places, including that of the relay with Emanuele Idini, Emanuele Merisi and Piermaria Siciliano. Called up for the Olympic Games in September in Sydney, he reaches the final five times, obtaining: a gold medal in the 200m medley (setting the Olympic record), a silver with European primacy in the 400 m style, a bronze in the 200 m, and a fourth and a fifth place with the 4 × 200 m relays (with Andrea Beccari, Matteo Pelliciari and Emiliano Brembilla) and 4 × 100 m freestyle ( with Lorenzo Vismara, Klaus Lanzarini and Simone Cercato).

Last years as a swimmer

After the very successful 2000-2001 season, Rosolino’s career continues, even if he does not collect gold and silver medals as in the period of his greatest success. However, he never stops training and competing in European, World and Olympic competitions.

In Rijeka (Croatia), in December 2008, Maximilian wins his last medals career: bronze in the 200m and silver in the 400m freestyle during the European Championships in the 25-meter pool. The last participations in important competitions were in 2009, but neither at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara, nor at the world championships in Rome, nor in the European short course in Istanbul has had the success of the previous 15 years of career.
