World of Warcraft: Beginner’s rundown of every class

There are so many options to go through and they’re all so different!

World of Warcraft released in 2004 with 8 total classes to play as. Fast-forward to today, and you will see that the game has 13 classes, each feeling completely unique and that are all good at different things. In today’s article I want to dive into each class, talk about which roles they can fit, how hard they are to use and what makes them all good.

• Fury: dual-wielding, high-speed spec great for fast-paced gameplay.

• Protection: A reliable tank with high mobility and damage mitigation.

If you enjoy charging into battle with swords, axes, or shields, and diving head first into the front of the enemy lines, then. This class is for you.

Paladins

Paladins can be a bit tougher to learn than a warrior, as you have some more mechanics to keep in mind while you play. They combine martial power with divine magic. They wear heavy armor and the roles they fill in a party are Healer, Melee DPS and Tank depending on which spec you choose:

• Holy: They’re a powerful healer. You can pick if you want them to be really good healers for single targets or okay healers for groups.

• • Protection: A defensive tank spec with strong utility.

• Retribution: A near perfect mix of healer and Melee DPS with burst damage.

Great for playing that want to be a jack of all trades.

Hunter

A low skill floor but high skill ceiling class that deals ranged DPS. They are great for beginners. They fight from range and have pets to help them tank enemies or deal damage. Their specs are:

• Beast mastery: One of the easiest specs. Focuses on pet synergy.

• Marksmanship: uses precise shots and excels at AoE burst.
• Survival: They use a mix of ranged and melee attacks, with the added utility of traps and a pet.

This is widely known as the best class to try if you’re playing this game solo.

Rogue

They’re a melee DPS class that utilizes stealth to attack enemies with great critical strikes. They can vanish, stun, and sneak up on enemies.  Because of the complexity of these tools, they’re also one of the tougher classes to try. Their specs are:

•  Assassination: they use poisons and bleeds for sustained damage.
• Outlaw: is a pirate-themed rogue. Good for cleave and mobility.
• Subtlety: Focuses on stealth, burst, and shadows.

Great for players that like applying strategy into their fights and are privy to positioning in fights.

Priest

With the ability to either become a support or a ranged DPS. Priest are able to attack enemies with dark or light magic or heal their allies with this rather versatile and complex class. Their specializations are:

• Holy: Your healer bread and butter, with powerful AoE healing.

• Discipline: This spec heals by dealing damage to enemies. More engaging but also difficult specialty.

• Shadow: A ranged DPS that uses psychic and void magic.

Priest is mostly right up the alley of anyone looking to become a very useful healer.

Mage

One of the original ranged DPS class in all of WoW. They’re classic spellcasters who deal high damage, and their main drawback is how low their defense and health pool can be. They compensate by having great mobility with spells like blink and teleport. Their specs are:

• Arcane: They cast powerful spells in both bursts of damage and AoE. Their main drawback is the managing of their mana can be quite complex. You don’t want to be left fresh out of mana in a very intense fight.

• Fire: They deal powerful crit-based damage with AoE potential.

• Frost: They can slow the enemy down with their powerful spells, making them great for kiting enemies.

Mages are great for players looking for a power fantasy. Dispatching of enemies from a distance with flashy spells.

Warlock

Another ranged DPS, warlocks command demons and cast spells with damage over time as well as curses. They also have tanky pets and self-healing, making them great for players trying the game for the first time. Their specs are:

• Affliction: They rely on spells that deal damage over time and keeping the pressure on an enemy.

• Demonology: They use demons that they summon to attack enemies.
• Destruction: They deliver huge critical strikes and chaos magic.

Great for players looking for a complex spell caster that’s different from a mage.

Druid

This is the most diverse class in the game, enabling you to become an either ranged or melee DPS, or even a healer or a tank. They shapeshift into animals and can fill any role. Their specializations are:

• Balance: A ranged DPS with nature and arcane spells.

• Feral: melee DPS with fast attacks that apply bleed.

• Guardian: A tank with very high survivability.

• Restoration: healer that uses heal over time.

Druids are great because you can fit every role in the game with this class, but they can be pretty complex to learn.

Shaman

They can be a healer or a ranged/melee DPS. Shamans are spiritual warriors who use elemental magic and totems to support their group. They’re specializations are:

• Elemental: they use lightning and fire spells to strike from a distance.

• Enhancement: A totemic warrior who strikes foes with weapons imbued with elemental power.

• Restoration: a healing specialization that leverages the power of water and totems to keep their party members alive with area of effect healing.

Players who enjoy nature magic and hybrid playstyles will love this class.

Death knight

They’re able to fit the roles of melee DPS and tank. Death knights use dark magic. Death Knights engage their foes up close, supplementing swings of their weapons with dark magic that renders enemies vulnerable or damages them with unholy power. Their specs are:

• Blood: They’re a tank with high survivability thanks to their self-healing.

• Frost: A DPS with icy burst.

• Unholy: focuses on diseases and undead pets.

Great for edgy players that are looking for a dark themed class.

Monk

Tank, Healer, or Melee DPS class with fluid animations and unique mechanics. Their specs are:

• Brewmaster: is a dodge-heavy tank that splits damage.
• Mistweaver: A healing spec with both ranged and melee healing.
• Windwalker: A fast, combo-based melee DPS

Great for players looking for thrilling and fast phased gameplay.

Demon Hunter

Demon Hunters are agile, high-mobility warriors that can fit the melee DPS or tank role. They can even They can double jump and glide. Their specs are:

Havoc: A melee DPS specialists who use a combination of physical attacks and Fel magic to deal damage.

Vengeance: an aggressive, fast-paced Tank that rips souls from the enemy to use for their own benefit.

Great for fast gameplay and easy to learn ability rotations

Evoker

These can become healers or ranged DPS, and they can be quite hard to grasp. Evokers use charged abilities and mobility to heal or deal damage. They are exclusive to the Dracthyr race. And their specs are:

• Augmentation: a support-oriented, ranged DPS that focuses on enhancing the damage and capabilities of their allies.

• Devastation: focuses on utilizing the power of the Red and Blue Dragonflights to harm enemies from a distance.

• Preservation: A support spec that uses a combination of Nature, Time, and Fire magic to heal players and harm enemies.

The last class to arrive on wow. Great for veterans of the game looking for new mechanics.
